River Of Stones Writing Challenge


Back in December I signed up for the River of Stones Mindful Writing Challenge – January 2012. The idea is to notice something properly every day and to write it down. These then become your ‘stones’.

I started on New Year’s Day and I’ve written a small ‘stone’ most days. I would like to share some of them with you today, and to invite you to think about the beautiful, little things in your life that you sometimes miss from being too busy and rushing around. It has helped me to pause, reflect and see there is so much beauty around us. We only need to look to see it.

Grey skies, wind blowing
Yet quiet optimism is felt

How I have missed you
And grateful for your beauty

Soft, white sheets cover me
Like a protective blanket
Cool to touch, all snuggled up
I can’t wait to fall asleep

Feeling strong and spirited
Let’s take on the world
